Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?

I had no coolant problemsWhy would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?Funny you should ask this.

I am currently doing the cylinder head on my Citroen, and while I am in there, I have just replaced the timing belt and water pump, even though they didn't really need it. The reason for this is, if they did fail, I would have to go through the same huge dismantling job as the cylinder head because they are in such an awkward place. Not worth the hassle, for a 20 pump.

Hope this answers your question. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt? They have to take the water pump off to get at the timing belt. If it looks worn, they put a new one on.Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt? The water pump is behind belt so while it is tore down that far just put a new one on so your not having to in couple weeks when it goes outWhy would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?hi.. honda is very common on this... the reason why they replace the water pump is that this pumps impeler wears out and will cause the engine to overheat. thats why as a rule of thumb when replacing the timing belt , since the parts are all exposed might as well do it now. until now honda has not improved on this. good luckWhy would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?If your water pump is driven by the cam belt ( a lot of engine are like this )

Then if you water pump fails it is just as bad as the cam belt breaking

So I would always recommend changing a water pump if it is cam belt driven. And I would always advise the customer of this first.

Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?Water pumps tend to %26quot;go out%26quot; after a predictable number of miles. They are hard to get at and the biggest expense to replacing them is the same labor/expense that is required to deal with a new timing belt. (The belt runs the water pump also). It is probably wise to change the pump at this time... but, they probably should have gotten your understanding so you wouldn't have the doubt issues you are feeling now. If they basically just charged you for the water pump... they probably saved you money in the long run... IF you were not planning of selling the car soon. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?In some cases the water pump is driven by the timing belt.

In these cases, it is prudent to change the pump, as if it seizes it will cause the timing belt to break, with catastrophic consequences for the engine. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?It is quite possible that the pump sounded noisy to a mechanic, or was starting to leak slightly, which cannot be seen until the cover is taken off to do the belt. There are a few cars which are suspect in terms of pump life, so if the mileage is high or the car old some people might replace it as a precaution. There is very little incentive to replace it for profit only. The extra time involved is minimal and the margin on a pump is not great.

Old mechanic. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?they may have identified a problem and it would have been the best time to do it while the cases were off .perhaps they should have rang you first?.Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt? The timing belt drives the water pump. Without knowing when the water pump fails, it's wise to change the water pump when changing timing belt because there are much disassembling before reaching the component. The mechanic is charging extra for the water pump, but saving you duplicated labor if the water pump do fail. A failed water pump can cause major engine problem. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?it's called preventive MaintenanceWhy would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?Replacing the water pump is the smartest move by the mechanic and he is actually trying to save you parts and labor cost and future problems by doing it at this time. If your water pump goes out in a month then the mechanic will have to remove the timing belt he just put on to get to the water pump. You will again pay for the same labor and you will also pay for new gaskets to do it all over again. This is the wise thing to do and your mechanic did it for your best interest and it will save you in labor cost. I would thank my mechanic for doing this for me and be happy that he just didn't put it back together without changing the water pump. Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?Believe it or not its to save you and them money. When you change the belt it will put more belt tension on a old pump which could lead to the water pump bearing going out and locking up the pump.If the pump locks up it wipes out the new timing belt and possibly the valves on you engine. So you need to thank them and not think that they ripped you off.Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?to bilk you of money, if it was not agreed upon before hand or you did not recieve a phone call about the extra repairs b-4 hand. which just means they did it without your permission, you can sue...........Why would a garage change the water pump on my car when they did the timing belt?to get more money out of you hoping you don't know anything about cars
