How do I change a water pump on a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix?

96 grand prix GT or SE? if its the GT u have a 3.8l V6 AKA 3800 series II if thats the case its easy first take radiator cap off drain radiator by syphoning out coolant put in clean bucket if u reuse. second disconnect the batter just to be safe third loosen the 8mm nuts on water pump pulley leave belt on as it will help keep the pulley from moving u might have to use a screw driver between two the bolts to keep the pulley from moving then remove the belt, then remove the bolts to the water pump pulley at this point u will have to put a jack under the engine and remove the front motor mount as it will be in the way of getting one of the bolts out. then remove the 8mm and 13mm bolts that hold the water pump on REMEMBER TO CLEAN TIMING COVER HOUSING THOROUGHLY WHERE WATER PUMP WAS USING A RAZOR AND SOME SCOTCH BRITE MAKE SURE THERE IS NO OLD GASKET MATERIAL IN THE WAY or it will LEAK installation is reverse of removal. hope this helpsHow do I change a water pump on a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix?if you are serious about doing the work yourself, then the best thing for you to do is to go to auto parts store and buy either a chilton's or hayne's manual. both these books are based on completed tear down and rebuild of the pertinate vehicle, and they both have manuals for just about anything you could buy and drive
