How do you change the water pump on a 66 Beetle?

Anyone? How do you change the water pump on a 66 Beetle?Well ya see, it's like this ... you really have to be prepared to replace a water pump on a '66 beetle.. and what i mean is ..you are gonna need the proper tools to do this job... like water pump pliers and make sure you get a large enough drain pan for all of the special coolant that is gonna be drained from the beetle... Some of these beetles were special and had very large coolant reservoirs....(5-6gals).

Now, once you have the correct tools you will need to raise the vehicle up from the front at no less than 20 degrees of rearward slope and make sure to use the proper lifting equipment and jack stands... now then once you have the beetle supported firmly on the stands, crawl under from the drivers side and pierce a hole in the special coolant reservoir, make sure to have the drain pan ready and also the approved reservoir service hole repair kit. This kit may only be available at your local AUTOZONE, if not call Volkswagen.. I am sure they will tell you what you need..

Now take you piercing tool (sharp punch) and begin to pierce the floor pan area directly in front and to the left of the transaxle. Don't get discouraged if the first attempt does not pierce completely throught to the reservoir. These older '66 beetles had a lot of metal in them and may require as many as 5-6 attempts.. Once the floor pan is pierced crawl back out from under the vehicle and pour some water in the rear floor area to assure the the holes are completely through..

If the water starts to leak out of the floor, you have successfully penetrated the reservoir. The next step is to call the local parts store and ask them to look up the water pump for the classic '66 beetle... At this point you may have to be persistant upon getting what you are asking for. Don't worry, if the first attempt doesn't work, just ask for the manager.

By now you may want to go the the local library and get the repair manual on one of these classic '66 beetles... there are some procedures that are hard to explain.. plus torque specs that must be followed to a %26quot;T%26quot;.....

If none of this gets you where you think you can do this repair by yourself .... Call your local IMPORT specialist and I am sure that they will be more than happy to LAUGH AT YOUR JOKE!!!!!
