How do i change a water pump on a 2005 chevrolet 2500hd trubo deisle?

wow he took that right out of a book.the only problem is you need special tools for the water pump and you have to pull the starter to use the special tool to hold the crank when you remove the crank pulley.theres alot of orings that tear real easy on the 6.6.if your not very confident in your mechanical abilities i wouldnt recommend doing it.mainly because when you take it to a shop after youve torn it down,it would cost the same if you would have taken it in the first place.sorry but the duramax is a finnicky *****.How do i change a water pump on a 2005 chevrolet 2500hd trubo deisle?6.6L Engine Turbo Diesel.

To keep tree huggers happy, collect and DO NOT drop on ground the antifreeze. It is poison. Good time to change the lower radiator hose that is also bolted to this pump. Around one hour for the first time.

Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat?

not necessary but very good idea too change it as it is common fault on V.A.G engines for the pump too fail and cause further damage ie overheat and blow the head-gasketDo you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? You don't need to, but it's a good idea.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? While youre there, why not, if you have enough miles on it to change the belt, then the seals and bearings in the water pump can't be great, so I would, cause it's such a bear to get to.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? If you change the timing belt yourself, I'd say no. If you can't do this maintenance yourself, then when you go to change the water pump its going to cost another ton of money.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat?I agree . although I never did on my escort and its never been a problem - but if it does fail in the future , just means more work. its basically preventive maintenance .Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? Its not necessary because its two unralated deals. the water pump only needs to be changed when it doesn't move the water inside the engine. But. if the engine is old its good to change it.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? Not essential but if a cheap spare one is available fit it.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? Not sure on your car, but on a lot of cars the timing belt, or belts must be removed to change the water pump. So if you do not change it and the water pump goes out, then the timing belt has to come off again, so the labor price will be as much as it was for changing the timing belt. If the car is of the age where the timing belt needs replacing, then the water pump is also about that age. The labor price should not be much more, than just having the timing belt done. It will cost extra for the pump.Do you need to change the water pump when changing the timing belt on a vw passat? You should. how much will it cost to have a timing belt and water pump at a independent auto shop? the dealer is asking for $1100, its an acura.Price to change timing belt and water pump?Depends on what year. The newer these cars get the harder and harder it is to do this kind of work.

Is it a front-wheel drive? If it is, that makes replacing the water pump and timing belt infinitely more difficult.

That kind of job is always pricey, but I would suggest looking around a bit first. I don't remember ever charging over a grand even on the most horrible little Japanese cars for that kind of job.Price to change timing belt and water pump?wow that's alot. It is a tough job. the parts cost about 100-200 but it's all labor. 1100 though is a lot. it depends what year it is. I would pay that for an -05-08 but any earlier I'd llook around

How much is to change water pump, thermostat and radiator in 2001 Passat 1.8T? Thanks.?

Get estimates from at least three repair shops. Prices vary from place to place. How much is to change water pump, thermostat and radiator in 2001 Passat 1.8T? Thanks.?Kind of unusual to need a radiator on a Passat. Water pumps are a real problem on VW. Most shops will want to change out the T-belt when replacing the pump. Typical price for T-belt, water pump, job runs in the $800 to $1000 range. That would include the oil seals and antifreeze. Thermostats do go bad, radiators can go bad, but if you are just having an overheat issue, they may not be necessary.

The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?

should i try to have it flushed or change the water pump? the antifreeze will not move out of the overflow. The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?the over flow is what it stands for.

depending on the vehicle you have you will probably not see any flow unless it is a separate entity from the cooling sytemThe antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?Make sure that none of the hoses have been kinked or clasped on it. It is most likely that the thermastat is stucked closed(even new ones dont work sometimes) or like you say it would have to be the pump. The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?Did you try to run the car without a thermostat to make sure the water pump is working???

Did you test the thermostat by dropping it in boiling water and removing?

Are you looking in the radiator to see if it is moving? - the overflow will not move unless it overheatsThe antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump? You didnt say what type of car it is.But if it is a newer one and the rad is lower then the engine it has an air pocket in the engine.you have to pull a vacume on these to get them full. The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?Don't panic. As long as the thermostat is closed only a very small amount of coolant circulates. Such a small amount that you can't even see it. Especially at the top of the radiator opening. Leave the radiator cap off with the opening in the highest position by jacking the car up slightly. Start the car and the water will start to circulate as the dash needle reaches the normal operating position. If the needle soars past the normal zone the lower radiator hose may be collapsed closed. Do all these checks before considering messing with the water pump. The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?Providing the car's not overheating, it's working fine. It shouldn't overflow anyway, that's only for when it does overheat. Have you tried running it with the cap off and looking for signs of circulation once it's warm? The antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump?It doesnt circulate from the overflow, its when the overflow is empty that you have problems.A water pump doesnt pack in like that it leaks but still circulates the water. For the water pump not to pump water the belt or the impeller would have to breakThe antifreeze will not circulate, so i changed the thermastat and nothing still. is it the water pump? How do u know it won't circulate? Be specific, I'm a mechanic and I'm here to help people but many times the questions are too vague and general.

Take the thermostat out and start the car, if the water is moving the pump is good, If you're working on it , it's cuz it's overheating I assume. If the water is circulating put the thermostat back in, hook the hoses and everything, , start the car and let it run, when the temperature gauge reaches half your fans should COME ON, if not, your fans are not working

It's a volks new beetle 1998 and this is a recommandation of the dealer. It gets expensive...Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt? You don't %26quot;have%26quot; to do it but it's a good idea to do both at the same time b/c you have to take the same parts off to do both jobs so it saves you the labor expense of doing them seperatly. Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?I've never heard of a %26quot;bender%26quot; but replacing the water pump when doing a timing belt is just a good idea because of the access to get to it but it's not required. Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?you shouldn't have to. If your water pump was working fine, you can wait until it dies a natural death and then change it. I don't know what you mean by 'bender'.Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?I have no idea what you mean by a bender. While it is apart you can easily get to the water pump, and if there is any question at all I would rather than pay labor twice. But it's your call.Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?WHAT IS A BENDER. YAH i went out on a bender last friday night. Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt? You don't have to do all of that at the same time, but the reason why they're recomending it is because in the long run it will save you on labour costs. lets say doin the timing belt costs 5 hours labour, and the water pump costs 6 hours of labour, what they would do is charge you for doing the water pump, and then add on another 1 hour to accompany putting the timing belt on, so it would be 7 hours to do both, but if only one is done ant the other goes then you'ed be looking at 11 hours to o both. I work in a garage, and I always recomend doing that to my cliends, It saves them money in the long run, and since we're already in there doing the job anyway, whats it for us to take a little more time and to do a little more work that is called preventative maintance.

It just so happens that I have an automitive text book beside me and i can not find anything about a Bender. Index or Glossery, and i'm not in the mood to go looking for a single word. I'm at S.A.I.T. Right now and need it for homework.

Change only one of the three if You have all of them in You hand.

Bender?.belt tensioner ,You might saidIs it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?Too many modern cars have a water pump driven by the timing belt. The problem is that if the water pump bearings sieze up, it will destroy the timing belt, because timing belts can't slip at all. And in many cases, if the timing belt breaks, you'll need to replace or seriously overhaul the engine.

It's an annoying design flaw, but one it seems that manufacturers are a bit reluctant to fix because it's sometimes cheaper to build one that way. I am not sure if the Volkswagens have this problem or not - I know it's pretty common on Hondas. And the usual work-around for this problem is to replace the water pump every time you change the timing belt.

The other way to drive a water pump is with a separate V or serpentine belt, by the way. These belts do not drive anything else that's nearly as critical as what a timing belt controls, so if one of these pumps seizes up, you can usually shut down the car before you do any permanent damage. Is it true that we have to change the bender and water pump at the same time than timing belt?First off, dont go to a dealer. They will charge twice what any other mechanic will cost. It will cost even more then what a german auto mechanic specialist would cost.

if you vw has high milage, it would be a good idea to replace at least the pulleys on the pump. The reason for this, is that the old pulleys wear has coincided with the wear on the timing belt, when you replace the belt, the wear on the pulleys, might be so great, that the belt teeth wont secure properly, it slips, your car wont run.

If this is the first timing belt replacement (50,000 miles.. give or take), i wouldnt worry about it.

And in 'bender' i believe your saying your car is a valve bender engine. Same answer as the water pump. If its your 2nd timing belt, replace the pulleys.

Now there could be a case made to replace both of them at the sime time as the timing belt.

If VWs have notoriously bad water pumps or valve benders, then it would make sense to replace it now, while the car is already in peices, it would save you labor costs later on. But if its not a normal problem, and this can be checked in any vw owners group www.vw.com/owners/index.html then dont worry about it.

Also, it might be cheaper to replace the entire system, instead of just replacing the pulleys.

Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?

I just had my water pump/timing belt replaced and oil change. When the pump failed, white smoke was coming out, which I figured out to be coolant from the smell. Now there is smoke coming out from under the engine, which I believe to smell like oil. Also, the temperature gauge goes up to the halfway point when I am at a stoplight or idling. The highest I have ever seen it is at 1/3.

I had my car serviced by the dealership and I asked them. The man said its burning oil residue from the oil change and that it will burn away in a few days. Is this true? I have had my car worked on and oil changed for the past year at this dealership and have never had any smoke or other problems. What else could be going on? Worse case scenarios. Thanks everyone.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?Yes it could be true that it is residue burning off. Changing the water pump is when the residue would have gotten there not the oil change. Either way if the mechanic says that's what it is you should be OK. Just keep an eye on your oil level and if it goes down to the point that you will have to add to it you should take it back to the mechanic and let him know. If you run it without oil it can destroy your engine. Hope I have been helpful.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?I would check and see if your fans are BOTH working- if not,get them fixed-actually sounds like a combustion leak to me.bad news for you.to do a quick check before taking it to a shop, please try this== let the car sit overnight and get dead cold(important step)-in the morning, open the hood and check/fill the coolant and oil. then have an assistant start the engine while you squeeze the upper radiator hose. IF the hose gets hard as a rock or builds pressure rapidly within, you almost definitely have a combustion leak( head gasket cracked head block)... also possible that t-belt is not installed correctly- this will affectvalve and ignition timing and can cause an overheat condition.for those reasons. is the new oil discolored or have an appearance similar to a chocolate milkshake? if so,combustion leak there. if the fans are not operating(may take awhile to come on by themselves) try turning on the a/c-both fans MUST run with it on-if not a fan or oter electrical fault is present.( always losing cooling fan switch under the heter hose coming from the distribtor area on the head). check also that you have bled all the air out of the system- if you run a honda even a half-pint low on coolant it will overheat....???? they do! there should be a bleed screw right behind the distributor near the egr valve-requires a ratchet/breaker bar,a six inch extenson and a 12mm SIX POINT socket to perform the operation-simply open the screwand fill the radiator till coolant ONLY escapes from it. then tighten it gently before the coolant stops flowing from it...finish filling the rad as normall then.-there are a lot of things that can overheat a honda, too many to list here. Istill feel a combustion leak comin, though. good luck!!

Thanks everyone.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?I have never heard of a water pump failing in such a manner as to allow coolant to get into the combustion chamber which caused the white smoke. That had to come from a failed head gasket or cracked head/block. But, I've been wrong before any don't claim any more white smoke so let's assume changing the water pump fixed the burning coolant problem...

The smoke with the oil smell is probably just that... burning oil off the exhaust pipe. With all the engineering going into cars, you would think they could put the oil filter in a more convenient spot and especially not directly over the exhaust pipe(s) and certainly without mounting the filter horizontally. But, that's exactly what they did. When you remove the oil filter, oil will spill. That's a given. You must then clean it up or catch it to keep it from getting on the hot exhaust. Or let it burn off. How long it takes depends on just how much they got on there and maybe they got into some grease and got that on there too. That would take longer to burn off.

Now, about that cooling situation... Let's wrongfully assume the new water pump is pumping properly (I've had new parts be worse than old parts). The flow is actually controlled by the thermostat which should maintain the engine at around 190 degrees. These are very simple to change and cheap from Auto Zone. The dealer's thermostat will be much more but will be a better construction as well. Your call there, but it should have been changed with the water pump and especially after a boil over. With proper control of flow, the water absorbs heat from the engine and gets rid of it in the radiator. Be sure the radiator is in good condition and not blocked up with a bunch of grass, bugs, or bent fins. You do mention that the temperature goes up when at a stoplight or idling and that brings another element into the picture. Your car has plenty of airflow through the radiator to cool the water WHEN YOU ARE MOVING. It has NO airflow when you are stopped. No airflow, no cooling... simple as that. So, the car is equipped with a radiator fan that is utterly useless when moving but very important when you are stopped.

Checking it is easy... Get in the car and let it warm up to normal temperature... around fifteen minutes if a cold start. The fan should come on automatically once the engine heats enough to make a temperature switch that is mounted on or about the therostat housing. No fan, no cooling and over heating at idle or no air flow conditions.

You have the potential for three problems:

    1. Dirty mechanic

    2. Faulty thermostat

    3. Faulty fan switch/fan (or the dirty mechanic didn't plug the wire back into the switch!)

Temporary answer: Don't stop! The wind will keep the engine cool and blow all that nasty smelling oil smoke behind you!

Good luck!Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?Oil residue ought to go in a few hours, not days !!! Anyway, if the smoke persists then it seems that youv'e got a cracked engine gasket and oil is mixing with cylinder water. Check it and check your radiator for any clogs.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?Almost every time i have seen this in my 35 years of exp.its turned out to be a cracked block or head.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?the oil residue should burn off very quickly since the mechanic was too lazy to de grease it himself. What does your oil pressure gauge read? It should be at least 30 to 40 psi at idle Unless you have a leak which would make it run hotter than normal and cause the smoke from under the engine you spoke of. I would have another mechanic look at the engine for possible coolant or oil leaks which would cause exterior smoke from engine and a warmer running temperature.Honda Accord 1996, new water pump/timing belt/oil change, smoke coming out from under the car and heats up?Looks like you should have went ahead and bought the Volkswagen now don't it?

Help.. how do I change the water pump?

I have a 95 honda civic and I just got a new water pump. I need to know how to change it. I have an engine lift, I just want to know if the is an easier way?Help.. how do I change the water pump?I had a 98 civic I did one on... The water pump runs off of the timing belt, so yea its a lot of work. You are going to have to remove an engine mount (pass side) support the engine with a jack and remove alot of the covers on the passenger side of the engine. I would suggest you get a repair manual at the auto parts store, probably the best $20 you'll spend (and more then I can cover here).

Since you are in there, I would do the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner. Be careful not to turn the overhead camshaft when you have everything apart or you will have to set your cam timing again.

Good luck, its probably a 7 out of 10.Help.. how do I change the water pump?remove the drivebelt. remove the pipes off the existing water pump, then unbolt it. bolt the new one on and replace the drivebelt, remembering to tension is so that it isnt slackHelp.. how do I change the water pump?the easiest way is to have some one else do it//if you finally end up doing it yourself dont forget to change t/stat at same timeHelp.. how do I change the water pump?Water pump on that car is behind timing belt . How do yo change a water pump on a Chrysler 105 outboad boat motor?

Remove the side covers. Under there along side the pivot is the shift rod. It has a coupler and lock nut. It unscrews both ways at the same time.(thats how you adjust it.)

Next get all the %26quot;up from the bottom%26quot; bolts and the one under the trim tab.

Once on the bench, it will have 3 bolts holding the pump to the lower, and a plastic water tube guide. Slide the pump off and the impeller will probably follow. Find the key way. It will want to fall past the wear plate.

Inspect the wear plate. Put in the new pump and rotate it in clockwise. Grease it so it has no dry start.

    http://repairpal.com/estimator/results

It sounds a little high to me! you can call other shops and ask for an estimate, ask everyone you know for recommendations or ask at some of the auto parts stores for a recommendation for a good honest mechanic!

other items that may be changed at this time are the other drive belts, water pump belt, alternator belt, ect, but this should not add much to the cost because they need to come off anyhow to get to the timing belt! Water pump should not need changed unless it is bad!Do u have to change the water pump, belt , etc around 100 000 miles in a 2001 civic and how much does it cost?it sounds about right and very late actually, honda recommends that be done at 80,000 miles. you could do it your self, but if you have no experience do not risk it. Do u have to change the water pump, belt , etc around 100 000 miles in a 2001 civic and how much does it cost? You should check your owner's manual for Honda's mileage recommendation. Your timing belt may suggest around 90,000 to 100,000 depending on driving conditions. A new timing belt is about $35 from your local auto parts store.

Although the timing belt wraps around the water pump pulley, the water pump should be inspected first not replaced without a reason.

If there are traces of coolant leaking behind the pulley, the water pump should be replaced ($40 from your local auto parts store). If there are traces of coolant leaking along the edges of the water pump gasket, only water pump gasket should be replaced (just $4 from your local auto parts store).

Since it is more difficult to determine the condition of the timing belt tensioner, it may be a good idea to replace the timing belt tensioner ($60 from your local auto parts store) .

If express lube charges $500 for this job, then they're pocketing about $365 for labor. I would consider $150 labor charge more reasonable.

    http://www.hondacivicrepairs.com/timing_

If you save yourself money and buy these parts yourself, the rest is labor charge if you don't have the tools. Shop around for the best shop on installation cost.

    Good luck!

How do you change a water pump pulley on a 94 Chevy Caprice?

It's at the front of the engine - drain coolant, remove the serpentine belt, remove 5 or 6 bolts holding the pump, install the new one. You may also need to pull the radiator shroud to get access to the front of the engine.

If this is one of the last 5.7's, the pump is located just above the distributor (what moron would invent that setup?!?), and usually when the pump develops a leak, the distributor - a solid state obscenely expensive thing - goes out immediately.

I had just changed the engine due to a busted rod..I replaced it with an engine from an 02%26quot; model. The parts swap was minimal to include the injector rail, air box and front mounting bracket..I also pulled the water pump and replaced it in what I thought was the correct method. This was accomplished by holding the pump sprocket in place so as not to change the timing..The engine started with the first turn of the key..So I know the timing is correct but where is the noise comeing from..03' CHEVY CAV whining noise after water pump change?check with the prof to see.

  • How much does it cost to change a water pump on a 2005 chevy trailblazer?

here you go Heather, If you have the 5.3 liter engine, the price for the new pump, $$96.89 Labor would be 3.8 hours to replace. Most shops charge from $ 60-80 per hour. Dealers More. If you have a 4.3 liter engine, Part is $65.00 labor would be 3.3 hours. So it should cost about $362.89 plus tax for the 5.3 engine %26amp; $296.00 plus tax for the 4.3 engine. the 5.3 is a V-8 and 4.3 is a V-6 . How hard is it to change the water pump on a 2000 pontiac gran prix?

On the 3.1 - piece of cake. One caveat - have you ever done this before? If not - buy a repair manual from a parts store that has step by step instructions. The main thing to keep in mind is to clean off the old gasket as thoroughly as possible. Leaving even a little of the old gasket on the manifold will make for a bad seal and your new pump will leak. It's not necessary to use anything other than the gasket that comes with the new pump IF you clean it completely prior to installing. Us a 'light' putty knife to evenly take it all down to the metal - be careful, however, as the block is aluminum - too aggressive with the removal and you could damage the area.

    Good luck

The manual will tell you that you need to loosen engine mounting brackets and take loose the power steering pump. If you do as they say you will be sorry. The first time I did it I did it according to Chilton, since then I do it according to Tom. If you want pages from a manual email me at: fireman52569@yahoo.com I will copy the pages for you and sent them to you. Another thing, I use air rachets to run the bolts in and out. Thomas S.How do i change the water pump in my 1992 buick regal?Would be best to get a repair manual from your local auto parts dealer or go to the local library. Or if you already have some idea and skills then; drain the radiator and save the material being careful not to spill any on the ground for any dog or cat to pick up as antifreeze will kill them. Remove the fan to get more room if the fan is in the way then remove the hose to to water pump, then remove the water pump. clean the surfaces and replace with new gasket and pump and uniformly torque retaining bolts to specification. replace hoses and anything else removed, add antifreeze solution back.

What is the easiest way to change a water pump on a 93 ford tempo.?

this is one of the hardest pumps ive ever had to change. counting the newer cars. i did all mine from the bottom(before i got my lifts) and there is no easy way. last one i did, the parts store gave me one with a bent shaft. always check first. i know from experience. luckily they did reimburse me for my labor. just dig in and watch your language. What is the easiest way to change a water pump on a 93 ford tempo.?well...the easiest way is to have somone do it for you lol...but if you can't do that...they are not difficult...just remove the belts...the water pump is fairly accessable from the top...you may have to remove the right wheel to get to some bolts easier with an extension and swivle. It's been awhile since I did one but as I remember it's not that difficult. Be sure and use a decent scraper to remove the old gasket then some fine sand paper to smooth it all out for a proper gasket fit. Mine was a '94 if I remember correctly...it may have had an %26quot;O%26quot; ring rather than a gasket...use a little silicone to hold things in place then refill the tank and be on your way.

How do you change the water pump in an 05 Pt Cruiser?

Thats a pretty big job. It's driven by the timing belt and therefore the timing belt must be removed to replace the water pump.

If you dont have the tools or experience to set up a timiung belt properly i would strongly recomend a reputable shop or dealer do the work. You can do serious and expensive engine damage if the belr is installed incorrectly.

I'd also recomend going ahead and having a new belt installed while your there. Cheap insurance.
